Clinic Information

Links of Interest

I am available to present clinics on the following topics:

  • A History of Jazz String Players and Their Importance to the Development of Jazz- This is a 1-hour clinic that will trace the historical importance of string players in jazz, listen to sound samples of soloists, and discuss the techniques used in performance by these players.
  • A "Comprehensive" Curriculum for the Jazz String Student - This is a 2-part clinic (1 hour each) in which I present a review of literature in the area of jazz curricula, followed by my suggested curriculum for jazz string education. The second hour will walk the attending players through a unit from this curriculum. Attendees should have instruments for the second part of the presentation.

If you would be interested in having me do a clinic in your area, please send me an email. jonathan@jonathanglawe.org

Clinic/Teaching Testimonials:

"Jonathan's presentation was full of a lot of information and was presented in a way that made it easily accessible. He presented a very structured clinic and made a point to explain why what he had to say was important. I loved listening to examples of string jazz musicians and learning interesting facts about their lives. I also loved being able to participate in a teaching example. The lesson used in the presentation had an impact on everyone in the room and many teachers discussed ways of incorporating it into their daily lessons. I turned around the very next day and used some of the tricks from the clinic directly in my elementary strings class. There is a great need and desire for teaching alternative strings in public schools and Jonathan is starting the journey to make that desire turn into reality." - Cori Simmons, Elementary Strings Director in Kansas City Kansas School District (used with permission)

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in support of Jonathan Glawe and his Jazz curriculum presentation. He recently presented lessons with two of my high school classes using his Jazz curriculum. The students were engaged and interested throughout his presentation. They enjoyed working with him and learned about how to approach improvisation in a comfortable way. I think he will make a wonderful addition to your offerings at any conference.

"What your doing here is really a great thing, I hope many schools will take on your curriculum . I think it will really help students stick to playing string instruments especially when they see there is more that can be done with them than just classical playing. Great job!!! stick with it! don't ever give up on it!!! Thanks for letting me be part of your wonderful project!
